8mm Adventure Aerial Runway Questions & Answers

Q: Can adults go on the Zip wires?
A: Yes this model is designed specifically for adults only due to the open / exposed trolley. We have a complete range that our suitable for both children AND adults using 6mm or 10mm cable which would be better for family use.

Q: What is better a seat or handle?
A: With this set we only supply an adult seat as having hands close to the trolley is dangerous as the trolley has no protection from finger or hair entrapment. The Seat is normally the preferred option too as it does not require you to lift your own body weight which can be very tiring over such a long distance. If you want handles bars then look at our other kits 6mm or 10mm.

Q: Does the tyre brake system work as well as the spring brake?
A: The tyre brake will stop the trolley so you do not hit the tree at the finish, but it's always a very hard stop unlike the spring brake that absorbs the energy and then bounces you back up the ride.

Q: Do you have to drill through the tree?
A: Yes you do when fitting the drum tensioner and/or cable holding device, they both fit on the back of the tree once you have drilled right through the tree. We do sell very long auger drill bits 600mm long. The tree diameter cannot exceed 600mm.

Q: I have a slope on my garden is this ideal for a Zip wire?
A: If you have a small difference in heights it is OK but big slopes (over 3m (10ft)) are not suitable.

Q: I have no trees in my garden what do I do?
A: You will need to build a structure take advice as what design will suit best depending on the distance.

Q: Why are the 6mm and 10mm sets so expensive?
A: The main reason is due to the safety and extra strength. Cables are made with 133 smaller strand which all make a smooth, strong ride. Warning some companies may offer 49 strand cables (7X7) which is not suitable for zip wire use. If you have existing cable call us to check the specification. If it has a fibre core it is not suitable. 7x7 cable with fibre core cable costs half the price but will be to slack and wears the nylon wheels very quickly. Our cable also come with a machined hard eye, and a fused and tapered end to prevent fraying. Compare the trolley provided with the 8mm which is under 11cm in length (fit's in the palm of your hand) to a 6mm or 10mm trolley which are fully enclosed and have internal brakes an you quickly understand you get what you pay for.

Q: Why are all the other plastic and steel trolley enclosed?
A: Apart from this 8mm Adult Only Adventure trolley, our whole range, from the cheapest to the most expensive are enclosed to stop finger and hair entrapment.

Q: Why do the 6mm sets stop at 40m 8mm sets stop at 50m and the 10mm sets stop at 80m?
A: The reason the sets have limits are due to safety testing's. If more than 80m of 10mm cable is used its outside of testing and will put more strain upon the equipment than designed/tested for.

Q: What is the longest length for a commercial application?
A: 40m of 10mm would be the longest in a playground.

Q: I have 2 trees but I do not want to drill them, what can I do?
A: Sometimes you can loop round at both ends take advice on this point when calling. This can make installation hard over longer distances.

Q: Do I need a harness for the zip wire ride?
A: No, a seat will always be ok as the fall heights will always be low.

Q: I have tree house can I launch from it?
A: Depends on the height and distance or the ride. Call for advice.

Q: What guarantee does the zip wire sets have?
A: 6mm, 8mm & 10mm have 5 years guarantee on the cable, trolley, tensioner, seat/monkey handle, cable holding device, end stopper and all clamps and thimbles. The spring brake, finger guards, internal brake rubber and wheels have 6 months due to amount of use.

Q: What is the minimum recommended age for a zip wire?
A: We recommend 8 years and up, however the 8mm Adventure Zip Wire Set should Only be used by Adults.

Q: What is the maximum weight the sets can take.
A: Each set states the maximum weights and our advice is always be 3/4 inside this. IE:8mm equipment has an 20 stone maximum but does not want more than 15 stone in use.

Q: Are zip wires dangerous?
A: No if set up correctly, if your fall height is too much then it is dangerous. Children should not be allowed on the 8mm Adventure set as the trolley has an open / exposed mechanism. Pick any other trolley for child use. Please take advice when you call.
